A Plague Tale Requiem – Best Graphics Settings Guide

If you are facing performance issues in A Plague Tale Requiem, this graphics settings guide can help you. My aim in this post will be to walk you through each setting I managed to change for A Plague Tale: Requiem.

A Plague Tale Requiem Best Graphics Settings

The Best Graphics Settings for A Plague Tale Requiem

Yes, I mentioned 2K since I am currently running the game at 1440p 2K resolution with the current setup. the game can be quite hard for a 1050Ti, 1650, 1660, or its super, and even an RTX 2060 in terms of graphics cards.

Speaking of Cards, do not forget about processors here as well. Some examples of processors that can have a tough time running the game are the i3 any gen, i5 11th gen or older, Ryzen 3600, or even an older gen i7.

If you keep these points in mind, you can find a middle point to either upgrade or build a new system. I recommend that you read the entire guide to know the full details of the settings in question.

Before starting, make sure you meet the minimum system requirements for the game as listed below:

Minimum Specifications

These are the bare minimum system settings you require to run A Plague Tale: Requiem.

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

  • OS: Windows 10 (20H1 64 bits)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4690K (3.5 GHz)/AMD FX-8300 (3.3 GHz)
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 4 GB, GeForce GTX 970/Radeon RX 590
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 55 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: 30 FPS, 1920×1080 in low. DirectX 12 Feature Level 12 and Shader Model 6.0 are needed.

Recommended Specifications

These will be the recommended system settings to run the game with all the details it has to offer to the players.

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system

  • OS: Windows 10 (20H1 64 bits)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K (3.7 GHz) / AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (3.6 GHz)
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: 8 GB, GeForce RTX 3070/Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 55 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: 60 FPS, 1920×1080 in ultra. SSD storage is recommended.

Best In-Game Graphics Settings for A Plague Tale Requiem

These are the main options that you need to change from inside the game. To access these settings, press Esc > Graphics > Change the options as shown below:

Vertical Synchronization

No ( There was no difference in graphics performance enhancement even if I toggled it on for myself. Hence it is best to keep it off to let the system use all the frame rates )

Screen Resolution

2560 x 1440 ( This is the setting that makes the guide 2K. If you happen to run a 1080p setup, you can get more Frame Rates since that will be less demanding on the GPU and CPU )

Resolution Scale

100% ( There is no reason not to set this to 100%. Makes the game look clean and avoids any unwanted blurriness )

NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution

Quality ( I used performance for this previously, which gave me a few FPS more. But the game did not look that good. )

NVIDIA Low Latency

Disabled ( This option helps reduce input latency and improves PC performance. Did not find it helpful for a singleplayer game like Plague Tale Requiem )

Motion Blur

No ( Motion Blur takes up some frame rates and performance. Since the game is already heavy, I did not bother with this setting )

Chromatic Aberration

Off (This setting is best kept off for this game. Keep this one for more chromatic effects on screen)

Draw Distance

Low ( This shows you the distance of the background elements )

Shadow Map

Low (Shadow options are best kept low for heavy games like this )

Volumetric Light

Low (Low lighting can enhance your frame rates by a small margin )

Ambient Occlusion

Low ( Keep this to either low or medium depending on personal preference )

Depth of Field

Medium ( The more the depth of field, the more the elements will render in the background, and the more FPS it will eat up )

Contact Shadows

Medium ( Keep this to medium to not lose the quality of shadows over frame rates )

Light Shafts

Medium ( Keep this medium for the best balance of visuals and performance )

Screen-Space Reflections

Ultra ( The reflections for this game are awesome, so I highly suggest that you keep this to the highest to experience them )

Texture Quality

High ( Good balance of detailed models and textures. Do not set this to maximum unless you are meeting the recommended specs for the game )

System Specs Used To Test

These are the system specifications I used to test Plague Tale: Requiem:

  • CPU – For this, I used a Ryzen 5 5600x from AMD
  • GPU – I used an RTX 3060Ti FE for the graphics card
  • OS – I tend to use Windows 10 64 Bit for most of my testing settings
  • RAM – A total of 32GB of DDR4 RAM was used to test this game
  • Monitor – Samsung Odyssey G7 1440p monitor
  • Driver: GeForce Game Ready Driver v522.25 – This driver included the optimization for A Plague Tale Requiem
  • Storage – 1TB SSD Nvme M.2 for a fast load and boot time if applicable

Results and Tips for More FPS

You can barely run the game on the following systems but I do not think you should. Either way, here they are:

  • GTX 1050Ti / GTX 1660 or 1650 / GTX 750 Ti – For GPUs
  • i3 / i5 11th gen or older / Ryzen 3 or 5 old gen processors – For CPU
  • Anything above 16 GB of RAM – For Memory

These can run the game if you crunch out some system file settings as well, but I highly recommend that you do not even bother with it.

After testing the game myself, I can guarantee that most GTX systems will not be able to handle the Graphics and CPU load that Plague Tale Requiem has to offer. Here are the test results:

  • Maximum FPS – 110
  • Minimum FPS – 55
  • Average FPS – 68-75

After watching these results and testing them out myself, I can assure you that the game is indeed very heavy and demanding.

If you have anything equivalent to an RTX 3060Ti or above, you should be able to enjoy the game to its fullest if not to that extent. Anything lower and you may struggle to maintain the 60FPS margin with decent visuals.

After watching the system specs for the game when the developers released it, they were quite clear that the game was not meant to be run with every new system.

Yes, If you want to enjoy 30FPS gaming with decent graphics, then, by all means, go for The Plague Tale Requiem. Otherwise, I would suggest checking the benchmarks before diving in.

Let me know in the comment section how you are running and enjoying the game. Leave your questions and thoughts in the sections below and stay posted with us for more Plague Tale Requiem Guides.

  1. Yeah playing my self it with Asus x99 a 2, and intel i76800k, and 16 gb 3200mhz ddr4 and GTX 1660oc, 55-60fps so dont know what you are doing but game run playable in older systems too.

    1. If you check the guide carefully, I have mentioned the CPU also with which you should not push the game. That list does not include an i7 K series processor. So, I think you should be able to run the game like you said.
