Apex Legends | How To Set/Remove FPS Cap

With this quick guide, you will be able to remove or set your FPS limit for Apex Legends. This is ideally useful in situations where you are finding it hard to maintain a stable Frame rate.

This can cause your game to jitter. That in turn can impact your overall performance in the game. Since Apex Legends is highly competitive, every bit of Stable FPS matters.

The standard frame cap is 144 fps, but you can set this to your desired FPS after reading this guide.

Settings / How To Remove FPS Cap

Unlimited Frame Rates

First of all Click on Library and locate/Find Apex Legends. Now Right-click on it and go to Properties. What you need to do is Set launch options as per your liking. Write the command : +fps_max 0.

This means that you are using the command for unlimited frame rates for Apex Legends. If your system can handle it, you should now run the game at the highest frames that are supported by your monitor.

Apex Legends at 60FPS Cap

The command line you want to use here is +fps_max 60. This will set the command for a limited 60 fps which is also called “capping frame rates”.

I would suggest that you do this setting if you cannot tweak it from in-game. You can also use this if you do not want to change the settings from the in-game menu again and again.

Apex Legends at any desired FPS

You may have figured it out. For those of you who did not use the command line +fps_max xxx. Simply replace “xxx” with your own Frame Rate value to set it to that specific number.

This will help the system not exceed the set value in any way. Super useful if the frames keep jumping by a large amount causing lag and jitters. It is a useful tool for low-end systems as well. Here is an example of where you would want to set these command lines:

Update to Settings Launch Options

You can now set command lines and launch options by right-clicking “Apex Legends” from the steam library and going to the “GENERAL” tab.

After you have done that, look for a field called “LAUNCH OPTIONS” to set the values and FPS Cap removal commands I mentioned above. This illustrative image should help you:
