Back 4 Blood has released worldwide dating on October 12, 2021. The game is available for download on the XBOX App for both XBOX and PC users. For PC users, you need to own the Gold Standard subscription to avail of the offer of playing the game early. Now one of the problems that I was facing was I could not find a way to download the Patch update. The game kept prompting me to “Exit To Desktop” or press OK and sign in again.
The message “A Patch is available. Please Update to avail new features” kept popping up. After doing a lot of brainstorming and research I found a solution to this issue. There was an update of 900+ Mb and after doing that, my game launched quite fine. In this short post, I will show you how to do that. How To Update/Fix Back 4 Blood Patch update in XBOX App/PC
The very first thing you need to do is type in “Microsoft Store” in the Windows search bar. It should pop up at the very first search result. If it does not, look for it by scrolling down. You should eventually find it:
After you open the store, select the three dots […] at the top-right of the screen. In the subsequent dropdown, select the option “Downloads and Updates” like so:
you should now see a list of apps that have been in use recently. If you have launched Back 4 Blood lately, it should pop up on the window at the top. What you need to do is simply click on the Back 4 Blood Icon. It will take you to the official site for Back 4 Blood, where you can download the recent patch and updates from the developers. I do not know why this option is not available as default like other apps. For example, in Steam, Uplay, or say, Origin auto-updates are enabled by default. How To enable Auto-updates for Microsoft Store?
In order to do this, go to the Microsoft Store, and click on the three dots at the top-right. After doing that, simply click on the settings option. The first option you see should be to toggle the Automatic Updates ON or OFF. If that is toggled off, turn that ON and you should be all good to go. Note that mine was already ON, but still, it would not update the game automatically. I think this is some kind of bug that the developers should fix as soon as they can. Otherwise, you will end up manually updating every patch as I have shown above.
How To Update Windows Apps Without Store?
If you cannot find the XBOX App and still want to update Back 4 Blood, there is a way to do this. First, click the Windows Start button and select Settings. Navigate to Update & security and For developers. Click the button next to ‘Sideload apps’. Select Yes to agree to sideloading and you should be good to go. Now hopefully, you will be able to download the apps without the store in the first place.
