Cyberpunk 2077 | How To Edit Save File (Save Editor)

First of all, let us understand what we plan to accomplish by editing the save file or using a save editor. Editing the save file can help you perform such tasks as change your game state or skip any bugged quests, etc.

Do not try to perform these tasks if you are unsure about handling the results as you may break your save file or corrupt any game files. If you really need to do this then have a read of this post.

How To Edit The Save File In Cyberpunk 2077 (Save Editor)

A Notepad is extremely useful to have while doing this. We recommend you use a notepad while performing these tasks.

File locations and management

First of all, we would suggest making two saves in the same location. This is in case you break something and the game crashes or you wish to revert back to the previous settings.
Make sure you make these two saves different from each other so you can tell them apart. Now that you have made a save to edit make sure you close the game before continuing.

Save data is located under C:\Users\[username]\Saved Games\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077\
make sure that you navigate to the correct folder and change the username to match yours.

Now that you are there you should see files titled ManualSave and AutoSave. You should now be able to locate the saves you wish to edit and identify them either by looking at the date saved or the screenshot.png located inside the folders.

Editing The Save File (Save Editor)

Open the file whose title contains the metadata within your saves folder with a text editor of your choice, for this guide we will be using notepad++.

The information in this file should align with your current game state e.g. Gender, current quest, position, and life path.

Now to change these values you simply edit them, for example, if you wish to change physical gender and the pronouns your character uses change bodyGender and brain gender from “Male” to “Female” like this:

  • “bodyGender”: “Male”, “brainGender”: “Male”
  • “bodyGender”: “Female”, “brainGender”: “Female”

Now just load the game to witness the changes you have made.

What to do if it did not work

During the time of editing out folder had 1 manual save and no autosaves, and 1 save slot ingame.

Certain values may need to be changed in-game to recognize file changes. For street cred you should try getting more, and hopefully, it will recognize the new value.

The game may also not only load data from the most recent save file, but the manual also saves. It may also take values from other autosaves. To fix this issue you should backup all your saves and edit each with the same values.

This guide exists purely to help people understand and make changes to their saved files. Thank you for reading this guide and comment below about any issues you may have encountered.

  1. Editing the metadata file does absolutely nothing. The metadata file is generated from the save data, not the other way around. It is never used by the application during loading.
