Before proceeding with the guide, let me explain what each ranking tier means in the context of this guide. This will help you understand why they are placed where they are.

This is totally a personal point of view and this can be different from yours. Hence, I highly advise readers’ discretion while going through the tier list guide.

Ranking Tiers Explained ⇓

The Ranking is done on the basis of offense, Defense, DPS, character design as compared to the main series, and the overall impact the character will make in your gameplay.

  • S-Tier: This tier is the perfect example of the top characters in the Demon Slayer game. You can use these as offense and defence at the same time. These characters consist of amazing moves that can throw opponents in a whirlwind of trouble. I definitely recommend these in your gameplay.
  • A-Tier: Lacks some performance benefits that you get from both the SS-Tier and the A-Tier. You can totally pick these and play the game you like. You can also main them and not have any issues. But for a beginner, these are less impactful than SS and S Tier ones.
  • B-Tier: Take not that B-Tier DOES NOT mean that these are the worst characters in the game. None of the character designs are flawed in my opinion. For my personal taste, I find the heroes/characters in B-Tier least impactful. Maybe I am used to super flashy moves and high DPS which these do not provide. But in the hands of a skilled player, even a B-Tier can be SS.

Demon Slayer Tier List Explained

Water Tanjiro

Water Tanjiro is no doubt a great character. Especially with the water elemental moves, and the charged attacks, it is a force to be reckoned with. But the devs came up with Hinokami Tanjiro.

If this was not the case, Water Tanjiro would have been A or even S-Tier. A simple reason for me to put Water Tanjiro in B-Tier is that the developers slacked with the aura and the true fight style for him.

You would pick Hinokami Tanjiro over Water Tanjiro since that is way more viable. Hence Water Tanjiro lands in the B-Tier.

Murata

The above points bring me to Murata. This character has a lot of gauge charge potential. Murata is quite similar to Water Tanjiro. That is because, with the correct assists, Murata becomes very powerful.

Murata also has a great escape which means less chance to get hit with a super move. But the character design, in my opinion, could have used more flair and physics.

A very fun character to play, but not my personal preference, hence I kept him at B-Tier.

Makomo

Makomo is a great character to main in my opinion. She has cool moves that make a great impact on the overall performance of your gameplay. One thing I would say is that her assists are not that great to start off with.

In my opinion, other characters have great assists that can turn the tide of a battle. I do not know if this is a bug, but she tends to miss some of her assisted hits, which drops the overall damage. Still, she is a great character and an A-Tier for me.

Inosuke

Inosuke is the perfect example of medium normal moves with High-damage combos and charge moves. I think this is the only reason I would put him in the A-Tier instead of the S-Tier.

In Demon Slayer Chronicles, speed matters a lot to close down distance and do damage. If you use Inosuke as an assist, you can expect the opponent to get pushed back by a lot.

That is due to the solid combos that it does. Outside of being slower than other characters, a great pick in my opinion!

Zenitsu

Zenitsu is a very strong character when it comes to overall skillsets. He has moves that are super quick, and tough to block. Very similar to what you may have seen in the original anime and manga series.

You can even combo this move if you time it correctly. The move that steals the show is his ultimate called the First Form thunderclap and Flash. The iconic move that is known around the world. I think they did enough justice to this ultimate.

But the letdown was a heavy shoulder charge for me. Even for a heavy move, instead of a blade slice, the first hit from the normal heavy is a shoulder hit.

This is quite the letdown since if you fight against a sword opponent you will receive more damage if these moves clash.

Since I was expecting more sword usage, this did not go well with me. Unless the devs decide to fix this, he remains in the A-Tier for me!

Nezuko

The only reason I put her in A-Tier instead of S, is that she fights with her claws at times. if the opponent has a sword, most times the clashes are won by the sword character.

I am not talking about the overall battle, but the Claw vs Sword concept only. But make no mistake, she is almost S-Tier due to the vast skillsets she has.

I think if they included the iconic Blood Demon Art: Exploding Blood in a more epic way, I would have definitely put her in the Top tiers. I

n terms of gameplay and skill usage, she is great. Her Aerial Assists are great to do long combos and her close-range dashes and combos are lethal as well. A Top A-Tier for me!

Shinobu

Shinobu is no doubt a top-of-the-line character in Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles. She has a plethora of moves that can turn the game in your favor.

She even has moves that can stun the opponent and assist at the same time shutting down the offense completely.

What makes her a top character is the poison damage and combos that she can do. If you inflict the poison combo at lower healths, the opponents will be in splits to save the battle.

The one thing I would say is that her ultimate should have had the same poison effect which you see in the combos.

I can understand that this would have made her OP, but the implementation of the ultimate could have been better. This is sort of a let down in my opinion. Other than that, a solid character to pick. Definitely A-Tier for me.

Sabito

Sabito has two very powerful moves called Third Form Flowing Dance Shadows of Dawn and Eighth fall: Waterfall Basin. Eighth fall: Waterfall Basin is the ultimate move of Sakonji, but it comes with the element of “Destruction”.

The first move is very powerful as you will or may have seen. The second move does great DPS damage. Sabito in my opinion is a great defensive character.

When it comes to defense as the best offense, this character excels in it. Even if you use a move at wakeup, it does decent damage. If you combo Sabitos’ moves with Boost [L1], he will do even more damage. A solid S-Tier for me.

Sakonji Urokodaki

He is very powerful in terms of the offense alone. His second form Water Wheel does massive damage to opponents.

You can use this as your wake-up move as well as to close the distance between you and your opponent. This character is somewhat spammable so use him at your own discretion.

If you use the proper assists with Sakonji, defeating you can become a daunting task for the opponent. You can also break guards with Sakonji if you use this form twice in a row. An S-Tier for me!

Giyuu

Giyuu is the perfect example of solid defense in Demon Slayer Hinokami Chronicles. This comes in the form of his impeccable counter.

If you can parry decently, you will have the blue combo gauge up in no time. If that happens you can now combos for longer durations as compared to the yellow bar combos.

Giyuu is especially effective against players who like to mash moves. The Level Three combos can do a tonne of damage if executed correctly.

It is a nightmare for spammers and mashers alike. His iconic “Dead Calm” is also implemented fairly in my opinion. A Top tier S for me.

Hinokami Tanjiro

As compared to Water Form Tanjiro, Hinokami Tanjiro is more powerful. That is how the game devs designed it so there is nothing to do about this.

He has a move that can instantly guard break an opponent at the expense of two-meter bars.

Since this game will mostly be played online, and there are delays and net codes involved, expect more hits from Hinokami Tanjiro. If the developers decide to improve the net codes, maybe you can develop a counter for this move.

The assist which you get from Hinokami Tanjiro is some of the best in the game. The Three-Hit combo takes a lot of HP if you happen to be at the receiving end.

I can see a lot of players picking him as an assist also except for the character to main in the game. An S-tier for sure!

Rengoku

Rengoku has one of the fastest startup moves in the game. This DP special hit can do massive damage on its own.

You can then do amazing combos from even very far away. Overall, I think Rengoku is the most balanced and well-put-together character in Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles.

His fifth Form: Flame Tiger can deal large amounts of damage to opponents in a short period of time. If you are in guard and the opponent is creating pressure, you can mash out the moves with your own DP move.

Rengoku in my opinion is a top-tier character. This can be due to the sheer gravity he brings in the anime and manga. And of course, the iconic Mugen Train that we all love and adore.

I think the devs had these in mind while designing Rengoku, and hence he is so balanced and Powerful. A top S-Tier for me.

Take note that this is a personal opinion on the tier for Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles.

This is no connection to the actual power levels of characters in the anime and/or manga series.

The only comparison I have drawn is in the similarity of character design and special moves. You can let me know what is your personal favourite character or tier list in the comment section below.
