Destiny 2: Lightfall – Root of Nightmares (RoN) Complete Guide

The Lightfall expansion of Destiny 2 has brought The Root of Nightmares raid to players with two weekly resets. The raid began at 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET on March 10 with Contest Mode beginning right from the start. It is a theme that players are familiar with when it comes to other raids as well, and you will be facing more difficult enemies as the rules are set.

In that regard, the following guide will help players in understanding the encounters, power, weapons, and more for the Root of Nightmares raid.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – RoN raid Complete Guide

As we talked about the Contest Mode above, there is some information that players have to know before they begin. It will be on for 48 hours from the time you begin playing, with 1780 being the most Power you can have. Additionally, each player will have 20 Power less than the encounter calls for.

If you manage to finish the Root of Nightmares in this time period, players will get an emblem too. Overall, the first Fireteam to finish the raid, unlock the last chest, and get back will win the World First belt for each player in the team.

If you manage to complete the Contest Mode by March 21, players will be in line to buy the Root of Nightmares-themed raid pin and raid jacket.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – What is the best weapons build and loadout for Root of Nightmares

Given that there are a number of weapons to try out in any sort of raid, they will have to choose the best ones. You will have a large pool of choices depending on the Exotic weapons like Divinity, Gjallarhorn, Outbreak Perfected, Arbalest, Witherhoard, Izanagi’s Burden, and Two-Tailed Fox.

Divinity can provide you with a great critical hit area along with increasing weapon damage. Gjallarhorn gives different Legendary Rockets Wolf Pack rounds, which increases the infliction of damage. Outbreak Perfected increases damage as many players use it and enhances  Heavy ammo drop rates after you are equipped with an ammo finder mod.

Arbalest is good for attacking shields and for normal damage. Witherhoard will be good in special builds, especially with Starfire warlocks. Izanagi’s Burden gives a big damage number with Honed Edge x 4 and works even better with Auto-Loading Holster and Heavy Weapons. Two-Tailed Fox can be used with the catalyst and gives good damage potential as well.

For legendary weapons, players can for Thoughtless Fugue-555, IKELOS_SN, or Succession. Shotguns in the range of Heritage, First In Last Out, Seventh Seraph CQC-12, Fortissimio-11, or Sojourner’s Tale.

Players are advised to get Grenade Launchers as Disorienting Grenades blind opponents. An explosive light Wendigo Adept is also a good choice. SMGs like IKELOS_SMG, Calus Mini-Tool, Funnelweb alongside Scout, and Pulse Rifles.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete Cataclysm Encounter

Players will have to start with the Rally banner in order to max out on supers and other abilities of team members. Make two teams, one add control, and the other for nodes and orbs. The latter will be two players with the remaining four making up the former team.

The orb team takes down the orb, to begin with, and the rest of the four players should focus on Tormentors, Barrier Champs, and Psions. Keep the team properly split and clear comms when required to do this encounter in a clean manner.

The two players will jump into the node’s glow and shoot it which will turn on the power, giving you the buff. The rest of the team will be on Tormentor to extend the timer. This will save you from the wipe mechanic.

The add control team has to go in search of two Psions in their bubble and finish them off with a melee attack. There will come a Tormentor and slaying them will give more time to the Sweeping Terror debuff, protecting you from wiping out as time is of the essence.

The ads have to be under wraps and finish the Tormentor along with Barrier enemies, all of which is done to not let Sweeping Terror end before your task is completed.

Now the two teams will break up as the first Guardian fires at the first orb and get both in the glow. The second Guardian gets to the next orb which is being pointed out by the first orb. As you are under the Field of Light buff, shoot the second orb which will make you lose the buff and connect the nodes themselves.

The second orb will take you to the third while the first Guardian shoots at the first orb once more which will reset your Field of the Light buff before going to the third orb and taking it down. You will basically have to keep on continuing with these steps until finishing the encounter.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete Scission Encounter

You will have one buff on either side and the aim is to join the nodes. After finishing all the nodes on a level, there will be a piston that gets turned on, moving you onto the next level. This has a total of three levels.

Ideally, one Light and one Dark player should do the connecting part, and the rest should clear adds. When the Orb players come to take the buffs, make sure the add clearers get the buff as well to take out the special glowing enemies.

This is why you must break up the team into three groups of three. Two players to a side and the third goes with the pistons, time and again.

The other two players will have to defeat enemies quickly. The Field of the Light buff will be able to take them down. After all the nodes are ready, a last Major comes up. Taking it down gets you the last piston which will bring you to the next floor.

Players have to cross three floors to finish the encounter here. Keep activating the Field of Light buff by using one of the two players by shooting the node and the others focusing on collecting the buffs.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete Zo’Aurc, Explicator of Planets (Macrocosm)

Refer to this map for numbering planets, plates, and other aspects:

Split your team into three groups – one pair will switch the planets on the far side, one pair will switch those on the close side, and two players will clear any enemies. Defeat a Colossus first, and then a Lieutenant, to reveal which planet is the odd one out – go below it to interact with it, then go to the other side of the room and inform your partner of which position you had.

Destiny 2 - Lightfall - Zo'Aurc 2

You dunk on their position and they dunk on yours. Once all four planets have been switched, three in the center will glow which indicates which planets on the outside must be aligned in the middle (White, Dark, Dark, etc).

Clear enemies until more Colossus spawn – defeat them to reveal three planets in the center and note their colors (two White and one Dark for example). Gather up planets that match that color and take them to their respective plates. For example, if the left planet is White, have someone collect from the left side and interact with that plate.

Destiny 2 - Lightfall - Zo'Aurc

Once all three plates are complete, clear enemies for the damage phase; stand on a plate that matches the shield color of the boss – either White or Dark. Deal damage until its health bar has a notch – if you don’t manage this before it becomes immune, you’ll have to reset progress. Repeat this process until the boss is defeated.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete Nezarec, Final God of Pain

The goal of the Nezarec, Final God of Pain fight is to create two connections of nodes: one full Field of Light connection on the left, and one Flux of Darkness connection on the right. When this is done, a damage phase will begin.

Nezarec will be standing up on his platform and then roaming around the battlefield, so you must stun him by shooting his chest; if not you’ll face a team wipe that can only be survived by standing in either a Darkness’s Refuge or Light’s Refuge (created by taking a Field of Light to a dark node or a Flux of Darkness to a light node).

Assign two players to create the connections and two players to clear enemies on each side while two others shoot Nezarec’s weak points. Then group up on a platform and deal damage. For further rounds, stun Nezarec’s chest even faster as he moves quickly toward his wipe mechanic.

Create protection for yourself with the buff taken from either node, standing in it for 15 seconds and refreshing it at need – though note this won’t protect you from Nezarec’s attacks or from other foes’. Finally, there is his final stand which requires knocking his health down, otherwise, he’ll do a team wipe – so save some Heavy ammo and be ready with your Super.

Thus, that is all the information players will need when it comes to the Root of Nightmares raid in the Lightfall expansion. It is a great type of activity to gain rewards and experience in the game with players.
