Gameplay Style Tips and Tricks
The 4-2-3-1 (Narrow) formation seems to be defensive, but it is quite a flexible formation, as the wingers and the full-backs can both join the attack.
The midfielders behind the single attacker are attacking midfielders (CAM) and the two midfielders behind them are defensive (CDM) which means they are helping the defenders. This works perfectly for me giving me a lot of options to work with.
My players can make constant runs here. We do have a lot of changes in custom tactics this year. A lot more details are present and to be honest, I love this a lot more than the old one.
The 4-2-3-1 is a very balanced formation. You can attack as well as defend and this is why a lot of pro players would stick to this formation no matter what.
Best Custom Tactics
The defensive Style should be Balanced for this formation. Defensive Width is best around 45-52. Depth is good at 55-60. Build-up Play should be Balanced. It is the best for this formation.
The best Chance Creation for this formation is Forward Runs. Remember this is only for the final 3rd of the pitch. The offensive Width is great at 50-55. Players in the Box is best with 6.
Corners and Free Kicks get 2 each. Player instruction is key to this formation.

We all love the 4-1-2-1-2 formation, don’t we? Even last year this was definitely one of the best-attacking formations you could use. Let me tell you that the 4-1-2-1-2 (2) or narrow, is even more overpowered this year.
With the passing being drastically improved over last year, this formation is more dangerous offensively than ever. You can literally keep one-touch passing until you reach the box and they shoot and score.
Also known as 4-1-2-1-2 Narrow, it is a variation of 4-1-2-1-2 formation. In this formation, there are no wingers in the midfield, which means the flank midfielders could be central midfielders (CM) as their roles are more concentrated in the center of the field and they stay closer to each other compared to the 4-1-2-1-2 formation.
Defensive Tactics
Defensive Style should be Balanced. With manual jockey mandatory online I would rather not use Press After Possession Loss or any other pressure tactics from minute 1 until I master it.
The width should be within 45-50 and Depth should be within 60-65. I would not go as high as 70 since I am still learning manual jockey.
Offensive Tactics
Let Build up Play be Balanced. This is perfect for this formation since players will run into spaces in the match situation. Chance Creation should be Possession.
The 4-1-2-1-2 has always been a formation for quick passing. Until FIFA 20 and 21 where we all started using a long ball with this formation. This formation creates triangles automatically and therefore it is best we use possession.
The width should work best at 55-60 since it is a narrow formation. Players in Box should be at 7 bars. Since we want the team to move into the box as a unit for more options in and near the box for quicker passing. Corners and Free Kicks should be 2 bars.

Both the CB on Stay Back While Attacking. LB and RB on Balanced Attack and Overlap. CDM on Stay Back While Attacking and Cover Center. RCM and LCM on Balanced and Cover Center. CAM on Stay Forward only. LS and RS on Stay Forward only.
