Gotham Knights – Best Settings and PC Performance Fix

The long-awaited game from Warner Bros. has finally arrived in the form of Gotham Knights. The game promises to be ever so exciting with elements of adventure, action, Co-Op and exploration all packed in a single unit.

Now, I have tested out the game, and as much as I want to flame the developers, I think the game runs OK. It is not that bad, which was speculated and shown in many videos across the internet.

I would agree that the optimization of the game is below par as compared to other major titles in 2022. But I would give the game the benefit of the doubt since I can run it on a GTX 1060, which seemed impossible previously.

In this guide, my aim is to show you the best graphics settings for Gotham Knights in a given system specification. I will also share some tips on how you can improve or fix PC stutters and performance later on in the guide.

Gotham Knights Best settings for PC performance

Gotham Knights Best Settings for PC

The settings are quite simple and not that hard to tweak at all. These are just suggestive changes and you can play around with them until you find the best one that suits your visual style. Let us check them out.

Display Mode

I used Borderless Window Mode for this one. This lessens the CPU load when you tend to ALT + TAB a lot. If you use fullscreen mode, make sure you are only playing the game and not minimizing it much.

Resolution

I used a 1920 x 1080 resolution for this one. Since I tried to test Gotham Knights on a 24inch 60Hz monitor, this was the aptest resolution for me. This is also the native one and I recommend that you stick to your native resolution as well.

Vsync

This was OFF for me since I was facing fewer frame jumps. If you are facing severe frame rate jumps, try to switch Vsync to ON and see if it fixes that or not.

MAX FPS Limit

I cranked this all the way to 360 or Maximum. To check the highest frame rate the game can touch, this needed to be done. You can, however, set this to +1 of your monitors’ native refresh rate for the best performance.

Upscaling Type

This should be set to FSR 2.0. I cannot emphasize enough that this is one of the most important settings for a medium to low-end PC to run Gotham Knights. If you have an RTX card, use DLSS instead and it can enhance your performance and frame rates.

Upscale Quality

This setting goes hand to hand with the upscaling type. Set this to “Quality” for the best visuals and performance. You can use High Quality for DLSS RTX cards if you have one. Do not use DLSS for RTX 20 series cards because it is meh in that section. Anything above works quite well.

Field of View

I used a value of 90 for my FoV. Too much and you will render more details from the background far back, hampering the performance. 90 is a good balance for me and my test system.

Raytracing and Motion Blur

Both of These are set to OFF. There is no point to try these on a GTX or even an RTX 2060 card. If you have a 30 series RTX card, you can try this out, but keep the motion blur off.

Ambient Occlusion, Bloom, and Chromatic Abberation

Keep all of these ON since I did not find any significant hit on the Frame Rates even if I dialed them down. Hence, you might as well enjoy good visuals if the system runs fine with it.

Depth of Field

I keep this ON just for testing purposes. If you do not like DoF, simply turn it off. It is not that heavy on the CPU or GPU. Just a matter of personal preference.

Quality Settings

I keep all of these to the Highest.

  • Texture Quality – Highest
  • Shadow Quality – Highest
  • Effects Quality – Highest
  • Post Processing Quality – Highest
  • View Distance – Highest

Might as well enjoy the game to the fullest if you can. I know very well that some of these settings hamper FPS, but since I managed to get 60FPS+ on most parts I kept them Highest. You can lower settings like View Distance, Shadows, and Texture to Low-Medium for the optimum performance

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9600K (3.7 GHz) OR AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (3.60 GHz)
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti OR AMD Radeon RX 590
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 45 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: 1080p / 60fps / Low Quality Settings

Recommended:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K (3.8 GHz) or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X (3.7 GHz)
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 45 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: 1080p / 60fps / High Quality Settings

System Specs Used To Test

For the test bench, I used an i5 8400 as my processor. The FPU of choice was GTX 1060 which is an absolute entry-level card for a heavy game like Gotham Knights. RAM in use was 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. I always use  Nvme M.2 SSD for faster boot and load times.

For Monitor, I use a 24inch BENQ 60Hz monitor. The operating system is Windows 10 64-Bit. Some peripherals used are Keychron KB, G502 Hero mouse, and Razer Blackshark V.2 headset.

How To Fix Stutters and Improve PC Performance

There is a tonne of articles and guides out there saying the same thing about checking connections, checking integrity, disabling anti-virus, and all that mumbo jumbo. Most of the tips are general and are of no use for modern games, especially new releases. These are the actual fixes or workarounds that the community has shared, that have worked for them:

  • Add -force-d3d11 to your launch arguments. Open Gotham Knights from the Steam library, Go to properties, then General, and pass the code in the launch options. This is for Steam Users.
  • For Epic Games users, do the same and paste it inside the Additional Command Line Arguments.
  • Verify the game files for missing files, Update the graphics drivers which is a must, and Disable any in-game overlay for Steam or Epic Games.

Using these simple methods will hopefully fix most of your issues regarding crashing or stuttering while riding in the Gotham City Streets!

Results and Tips for More Performance

The Average FPS recorded was 58-65 with all those settings set in Highest. Here are some tips for the following systems to increase FPS even more:

  • CPU – i5, i7, Ryzen 5 3600, or similar processors with 8th to 11th gen support
  • GPU – GTX 1050Ti, GTX 1650, GTX 1060, GTX 1660, RTX 2060.

If you happen to have a combination of any of the above systems, I highly recommend that you dial down the Shadows to Low-Medium and Texture to either Medium or High. Depth of Field can be skipped and View Distance should be low.

Hopefully, these tips will come in handy if you are struggling with maintaining even 60FPS for a 1080p res.
