Hogwarts Legacy – Slow or Stuck Download – How To Fix

Once you get Hogwarts Legacy, the following action would be downloading the Preload or the entire game after it releases.

I was pretty excited about this and downloaded the game, but I faced a few download issues. I resolved it and wanted to share how you can increase the slow or stuck download for Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy – Slow or Stuck Download – How To Fix

When I went ahead with the game preload, as I mentioned above, I faced some issues with the slow download speed, and sometimes it got stuck entirely.

Here are a few solutions I applied, and they all worked in some way or another. Let us take a look…

Using A VPN

If you have any ISP that throttles the download speed for you, the best bet here will be to use a VPN to bypass that.

The logic is simple since VPNs bypass the routing and make a more direct connection with the desired server. This can usually resolve the slow or stuck download issue. Make sure you connect to the closest server for this to work.

Change Steam Download Region

Changing the Steam download region can help significantly in most games if you see a slow or stuck download. Do the following steps to change it:

  • Open Steam and go to Settings
  • Head over to Downloads
  • Change the Download region to your nearby region
  • Restart Steam

Settings Hogwarts Legacy

For example, I have used Singapore as my nearest location, which boosted my download speed to the optimal amount. Make sure you are restarting to make sure the settings are in place.

A Simple Restart Works Too

Yes, you saw it right. Sometimes, a simple restart can work in your favor and fix the slow or stuck download.

Personally, the region change worked for me for Hogwarts Legacy, but this method has worked for me in the past for other games, so I can vouch for it as well. Try it out and see if that helps or not.

Upgrade or Restart the Internet (Router)

One of the most overlooked fixes is to restart the internet or router if you have one. That is because the routing can get messed up, or the incoming/outgoing bandwidth can become congested due to prolonged use time. A simple restart usually clears such issues, and you can get back on track after a restart of the same.

Try to clear the cache of the device.

Your next bet is to clear the cache of the device you are using. They will be a PC, PS, or an XBOX. I will list down the methods to clear the cache for each of them so that you can do it for yours:

For PC:

  • In the command prompt, enter the following command:
  • Prefetch, %appdata%, and temp, and press Enter. Then clear the files inside there.
  • Try loading your game after restarting your computer.

For Xbox:

  • Shut down or completely turn off the Xbox console.
  • Unplug it from the electrical outlet once it has completely shut off.
  • Next, hold out for one to five minutes.
  • Reconnect your Xbox to a power outlet.

For Playstation:

  • Do not enter Rest Mode; instead, turn off your PlayStation.
  • Watch for the console’s top light to stop blinking.
  • Unplug your console’s power cord from the rear.
  • Hold off for one to two minutes.
  • Connect the console’s power cord.
  • Restart the console to verify that the problem has been resolved.

If none of the above methods work in increasing the download speed for Hogwarts Legacy, wait for some time since the server can also be a cause of the slow speeds, and the server side speed may be deliberately throttled due to the heavy number of users online.

I hope you enjoy Hogwarts Legacy and get your hands on it as soon as possible. For more such posts, check out our Hogwarts Legacy Guides section.
