How To Access Competitive Mode in Overwatch 2

After the global release of the much-awaited PvP game Overwatch 2, people have been going crazy in both the right, as well as wrong ways. First of all, the long waiting queues are quite frustrating for returning as well as new players. Sometimes you can get in without any issues, while other times, you have to wait behind a queue of 30,000 players.

Some of the good news coming from Overwatch 2 is that once you get in, the rest of the journey is as smooth as you can imagine. The random error or disconnection issues have now been addressed which makes the game even more playable. The game also has a variety of modes to play and enjoy.

How To Unlock Competitive Mode in Overwatch 2

How To Unlock or Access Comp Mode in OW2

The main question here is can you play Overwatch 2’s competitive mode right away? If No, then what are the criteria of the game to allow you to play ranked games? I will try to answer all of these questions in this guide as briefly as I can.

Once you start playing the game, you will see some game modes already unlocked for you. They are:

  • Unranked
  • Arcade
  • Custom Game Mode
  • Training
  • Experimental (Locked as of now)

The one game mode that you cannot access right away is the Competitive game mode. Of Course, there is something in play, in order to access this in the first place.

Unlocking Comp Mode

To unlock the competitive mode in Overwatch 2, you need to play 50 PvP games. Not only that, you need to WIN all 50 games in these PvP modes in order to unlock the Competitive Mode for OW2. There are some things to note here if you want to do it the right way:

  • Play 50 games in PvP mode and Win them.
  • Player Vs AI matches will NOT count towards the progress.
  • Custom Games will NOT count as progress.

Unlocking Comp Mode in OW2

Simply load up quickplay and win 50 games in order to gain access to the competitive mode here.

Unlike many players, I was also confused with this part, since there were no clear indications of how exactly to do it. You can also view this challenge by clicking on the top right icon > Go To Challenges > look for Competitive. Most of these challenges CAN NOT be completed in Player Vs AI or Custom Game mode so take due note of this.

I am progressing towards this myself, and I look forward to enjoying competitive OW2 quite soon. Just like me, a lot of players are new to Overwatch 2 in general, so I guess this is a good measure by the developers so that a player knows what he is playing in comp.

Having a rough idea of the game mechanics and their preferred character will not only help them in the comp but also help their teammates as well. Let me know what you think about this step.

Thanks for dropping by!
