The introduction of Generation 9 in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV) has brought out the three new starters in the form of Sprigatito (Grass), Quaxly (Water), and Fuecoco (Fire). Players will have to choose one of them as their journey buddy as they travel across Paldea in search of new Pokemon and battle opponents.
There are a lot of fun activities to do as well like grabbing the Amulet Coin which doubles rewards and customizing your outfits to an amazing extent. The developers have left a lot of items to be found and used, but your opening choice may not be the one you wish to stick with throughout the game.
Players do have the option of changing their starter Pokemon and the following guide explains how to go about the process in the game.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet (SV): How to reset and choose Starter Pokemons
Firstly, there is no option to reset your choice, without going back in time in the game itself as well. It is called a gentle or soft reset, meaning you can achieve it in a fairly simple manner.
Players will have to begin a new game and then go into System Settings which will have the Data Management tab. Then, you have to remove the data already present by clicking on ‘Delete Saved Data‘ which is present in your Nintendo Switch profile.
Once you have deleted your data which was tracking your progress in the previous run-through, execute the steps given below to set up a new account:
- Start a new game which will automatically start a new save slot
- Go to System Settings and choose Users
- Click on ‘Add User‘ and enter the details they ask for
- After you are done, you will be able to make a new account in Nintendo or if you wish, select the previous one to keep on saving your progress when you will choose the new starter.
Now, you will have to fire up Pokemon Scarlet and Violet using the profile you choose before starting a new game. Click on the X of your controller which will bring out the Main Menu and choose Options.
Players will have to manually switch off the Autosave of the game, which is usually on right from when you begin. Click on the home key and start over with the Pokemon game, which will have you choosing your starter Pokemon once more as you prepare to embark on your adventure afresh.
Thus, that is all the information players will need when they have the urge to switch their starter Pokemon. It does happen often that you may want to go down a different route with a different starter so this guide should serve you well, given you can change your selection.
Nevertheless, do not journey too far into the game before having a change of heart as it will have you starting over from a long way off your position. Of course, you can still make up the deficit but it is a loss of time and effort on your end as well.
