Monster Hunter Stories 2 | Bingo Board And Rainbow Gene Guide

This simple guide clearly explains the genetics of the monsties in Monster Hunter Stories 2. I have explained how you can best work the Bingo Board for genes and also the process of mixing genes to unlock the highest potential of the monsties. The special Rainbow genes have also clearly been explained. So if you are curious to crack the genetic code of your monsties and make them the ultimate fighting beasts then do check out this guide.

How To Mix Up And Get Better Genes For Your Monsties

Bingo Board

All monsters have a 3×3 bingo board (the one at the bottom right) that can have genes. All genes have abilities with a color and an icon saying which one is what. There are 6 colors and 4 icons, the colors being the element (Neutral, Fire, Water, etc.) and the icons the type of attack (power/speed/tactic/blank-skill). On the bingo board, you want to play tic tac toe with your Monstie’s genes, making 3 ways with the same color or icon throughout the board.

Every match gives power to your monstie, and this can get even better if you match both icon and color. Be mindful that if the gene doesn’t have an icon it does not count for an extra bingo. There can be some slots locked, like with the Jaggi. These can be locked by level, so you can just level up the monstie till it unlocks. If your monstie has more than 1 slot locked without level, try to get a better monstie.

Rainbow Gene

The rainbow gene (the one in the middle) counts as an all-gene type, but it doesn’t give any ability. Still pretty useful for some creativity with the bingo, though we are keeping it simple. Normally you’re looking for these so you have a slot that you don’t need to fill.

How To Mix And Where To Get Better Genes

To harness your Monsters full power, you need to get at least to the 2nd town to learn the Channeling Rite. With that, now you can sacrifice other monsties to make your team stronger and make easier bingos using genes of the monsties that you’re not gonna use, instead of only leaving them. I have only played to the 3rd town so, just keep going in the story to get better monsties and fill up your book of genes (in the same part of the bestiary). Keep it simple, if you have a Fire-Power Monstie, fill the bingo with fire-power genes, this will make your monstie very powerful in a specific way, the way that it is determined to be.

You can’t move a gene inside a Monstie. You can only replace an existing one in the rite. Leaving you to get extra of the same monstie when you move a gene to a different spot. E.g. I want to move gene A from the top middle to the bottom left. I would need to find a monstie that has gene A also. To find them, just use the Book of Genes and find it. It should list the monstie that you have already hatched before in there. Get another two eggs, (Because you need to remove the gene if it’s the same one and move it to a different slot first) then use the rite to move it. It can take an arm & a leg to do this but it’s needed if you want bingos to happen.
