Resident Evil 4 (RE4) Remake – Best Graphics Settings

I will go over the best graphics settings you can do for RE4 Remake so that you can enjoy the game in all its glory once you get your hands on it.

RE4 Remake – Best Graphics Settings

I found the game to be surprisingly smooth given the level of detail it can grant a player. Hence it becomes important that you change the settings to your best so that you can enjoy RE4 Remake to its best potential.

These tweaks will give you a good balance of FPS and quality if you manage to follow this guide along with your tweaks.

RE4 Remake System Requirements

Minimum:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 / Intel Core i5-7500
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 560 with 4GB VRAM / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

Recommended:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)/Windows 11 (64-bit)
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel Core i7 8700
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 5700 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection

Testing Rig Used

For the Graphics Card, I used an RTX 3060Ti FE. In terms of CPU, I use a Ryzen 5 5600x. When it comes to RAM I use 32GB memory with a frequency of 3000MHz.

The Storage I use is an NVMe SSD of 1TB worth of space. It is important that you get an SSD rather than an HDD as it makes the boot time faster and the loading of maps and areas much quicker.

In terms of OS, I used Windows 10 64-bit with a professional version. The monitor in use was a G7 Odyssey with 2K resolution and 240Hz refresh rate.

You can refer to these specs and hardware so that you get a clear picture of how RE4 Remake may run on your system.

Screen Resolution

I have kept this as native for my monitor. I will suggest you do the same so that you do not have any scaling or blur issues. My resolution is 2560 x 1440.

Refresh Rate

The refresh rate should be that of your monitor. I use a refresh rate of 240Hz but this can vary depending on your monitor.

Display Mode and Vsync

I use a fullscreen Display Mode since that gives me the best results. Vsync should be turned off because it will cause input lag.

If you are facing screen tearing then I would highly recommend that you turn this option ON. For a game like RE4 Remake, I don’t think that you will require this option.

FidelityFX Super Resolution

If you own a DLSS-supported card, turn this ON by all means but one thing to note is that you will face downgraded graphics.

If you do not own a DLSS-supported card, you do not need to worry about this. For me, this is turned OFF even though my card supports DLSS.

Image Quality and Rendering Mode

I keep the Image Quality at 100% for clarity and The Rendering Mode is set to Normal. These are the only two options you need to change. There is no need to change any of these and I would recommend that you leave them to default.

Anti-Aliasing

I went for FXAA + TAA for this one. I tried both these options separately but I did not get the desired result I wanted. The best option for me was the mixture of both as they provided the perfect edge smoothness. Here is an example of how it looks:

Texture Quality and Texture Filtering

Texture Quality simply changes the quality of object textures. This can be demanding on the GPU if you do not have enough memory to support it. I have an 8GB Card so I keep this at High.

The Texture Filtering is set to High. This sets the image quality of object textures.

Mesh and Shadow Quality

Mesh Quality is set to Mid and Shadow Quality is set to low. Frankly speaking, I did not notice too much difference between Low and Medium Shadow Quality, and the performance drop was decent.

Shadow Cache, Contact Shadow, and Ambient Occlusion

All of these are set to LOW because their impact on my card was not great and they had little difference to make even when I had them ON for 3060Ti. You are free to toggle some of these ON depending on your taste and preference.

Volumetric Lighting, Particle Lighting, and Bloom

Volumetric Lighting and Particle Lighting are set to Low since they have little impact on the overall visuals of the game. Bloom is optional, and I had this OFF. These are not that intensive on the GPU. Since I was doing a performance test, I had these OFF.

SSR and Sub Surface Scattering

Screen Space Reflections or SSR is a good quality-of-life change to RE4 Remake and since it does not hog your GPU or CPU, you should keep this ON. Sub Surface Scattering is set to OFF since I did not notice much difference in keeping it On. Here are the other settings that come with these:

  • Hair Strands: Off
  • Graphic Dismemberment: On
  • Persistent Corpses: Few
  • Corpse Physics: Low
  • Diverse Enemy Animations: On

Some Miscellaneous Options and Settings

  • Motion Blur: Off – Keep this off for the best results
  • Rain Quality: Low – Depends on personal preference
  • Terrain: On – Depends on Personal Preference
  • Destructible Environments: On – This will make the game look more dynamic and interesting
  • Lens Flare: On – Adds better lighting to already lit objects
  • Lens Distortion: Off
  • Depth of Field: Off
  • Resource-Intense Lighting Quality: High
  • Resource-Intense Effects Quality: High

Take note that these results are based on the Demo version of the game. As per my past experiences with modern games, the Demo version settings are quite similar to the final version.

If there is any change that is to be made after the full release, I will make sure to update this post to the best of my knowledge.

Results and Tips for More FPS

Here are the results that I saw while testing out the game at the settings that are given above:

  • Average FPS recorded – 105

If you own the following systems then you need to dial down some high settings to medium like HBAO and dial the shadows down to low for the best results:

  • GTX 1660 and Ryzen 5 3600
  • GTX 1660 Super and i5 12th gen
  • RTX 2060Ti and i5 12 gen / Ryzen 5 3rd series
  • GTX 1650 and i5 12th gen / Ryzen 5 3rd or 5th gen

Take note that the overall performance of RE4 Remake will also depend on the Windows and NVIDIA panel settings in use. For my test, I have left all of them in their default values.

If you see that you are lacking performance, you can do the following:

  • Set NVIDIA Panel settings to Max Performance
  • Turn off the XBOX Gamebar and anti-virus
  • Close the unwanted startup applications by disabling them
  • If NVIDIA Shadowplay is not needed, turn that off as well
