Sniper Elite 5 Performance Guide: Fix FPS Drops and Stuttering

After a long wait, the highly anticipated Sniper Elite 5 has finally hit the shelves today, and it has brought with it the unique sharpshooting mechanics that fans of the Sniper Elite series adore.

While the shooting and gunplay mechanics of Sniper Elite 5 are enough to impress any FPS fan, they can’t be enjoyed properly if the player faces FPS drops or stutters.

Sniper Elite 5

As modern games continue to grow more demanding in terms of hardware, FPS drops and stutters have become increasingly common among players.

Sniper Elite 5 can run decently well on any mid-tier PC, but players can occasionally face performance drops. If you’re having difficulties running Sniper Elite 5 smoothly, follow these steps:

Sniper Elite 5 Performance Guide: Fix FPS Drops and Stuttering

  • Set to “High Priority”: The first thing you can try is to run Sniper Elite 5 on high priority. To do so, open your task manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC)> go to ‘Details’> right-click Sniper Elite 5> set priority> High.
  • Close background apps: Go to your Windows search bar (tap the windows key)> type ‘Background Apps’> disable background apps.
  • Power Options: Type ‘Power Options’ on the Windows search bar and set it to ‘High Performance’.
  • In-game settings: You can check out our guide for the best graphics settings on Sniper Elite 5. However, if your PC is unable to run the game smoothly, try playing on the lowest settings for a better experience. You can also lower your game’s resolution for a noticeable increase in FPS.
  • Turn off Game Bar: The Xbox Game Bar, if enabled, can significantly lower your FPS in any game you play. To disable it, type ‘Enable Game Bar’ in the Windows search and disable the Xbox game bar.
  • Update Drivers: Outdated drivers are also a common cause for FPS drops in Sniper Elite 5. Make sure that your display drivers and Graphics Card drivers are up-to-date.

In-Game Graphics Settings

  • Texture Detail – High (Good performance and visuals if I keep this High. Not much performance increase for me even if I set it to Medium)
  • Shadow Detail – Low (Shadows are CPU and GPU intensive so it should be set to the lowest value)
  • Reflection Detail – Medium (Medium levels of reflection were good enough for my system to get decent FPS. This can be GPU intensive.)
  • Anti-Aliasing – High (Sniper Elite 5 has issues with how edgy the graphics look. Even with AA set to High, I was not getting enough smoothness. Just a personal opinion)
  • Draw Distance – Low (You can set this to High. Note that more world render means more resource-intensive.)
  • Water Detail – Medium (Not much difference in setting this to Low or Medium)
  • Motion Blur – Off (I avoid motion blur for most games that do not give it a different feeling altogether)
  • Ambient Occlusion – Off (This one is optional. You can set this to ON also.)
  • Tessellation – Off
  • Obscurance Field – Off
  • HDR – Off (HDR is not viable for SE5 so I kept this Off)
  • Vsync – Off (Turn this On only if you are facing screen-tearing or FPS fluctuation issues)
  • Async Compute – On (Depending on what CPU you use, this option will render graphics, and compute shaders in a parallel manner)
  • Reduce Mouse Lag – On (Personal Preference)
  • Install/Uninstall Anti-Cheat – On (Good for Online Play.)

Windows Settings

Here are some things you can do to maximize your windows performance:

  • ‘Power plan’ – Choose High Performance
  • ‘Game Mode’ – Enable Game Mode
  • ‘Game Bar’ – Disable Xbox Game Bar
  • ‘Graphics Settings’ – Navigate to ‘SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Bloodhunt\Tiger\Binaries\Win64’ and Add Tiger-Win64-Shipping.exe. Set it to ‘High Performance’.
