If you are planning, or have purchased The Medium for PC, you must be wondering How and if you can play it on Windows 7. That is because a lot of new games are not supporting Windows 7 to start with. If you do not want to upgrade to Windows 10 OS, I will show you how you can still enjoy the game on Windows 7. Let’s Check it out…
How To Play The Medium (PC) on Windows 7

Main Method
The first and foremost thing you need to do is search your PC for a file named “xinput1_3.dll”. This file is used by the Windows OS to take inputs from the XBOX Controllers to help you play a variety of games. It also servers the purpose of recognizing other devices if a controller is not supported by your system. So you can see that this file is important for us to run this game.
If you are able to locate it then copy it. If you cannot find the DLL file, I would recommend that you download it from a trusted source. Note that DLL files can contain malicious viruses so ONLY download it if you think it is a trusted and valid source. After you have got the file copy it into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Medium\Medium\Binaries\Win64. Rename the File to “xinput1_4.dll”. That should be all you need to run the game now. Close all these folders and try to run the game. It should work fine if you did these steps correctly.
Alternate Methods
The two other methods are common and are Hit and Miss for most players. One will definitely work, which is upgrading your operating your OS to Windows 10 (Any version and Bit). The other is using a set of launch options. Open “Properties” for The Medium from your stem library and use either “-force-d3d11” or “-dx11”. Save it and try to run it from there. This has worked for some players but not for most so do it at your own leisure if you want to.
With any of the above methods, hopefully, you can run the game on the Windows 7 OS. If you still face any issues during or after the changes revert back to the previous settings. To do that I would recommend that you keep a backup of the original files. that would be all for this guide. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and I will see you in the next guide!
