Trek To Yomi | Performance Guide And Stuttering Fix

Today I am going to be talking about the newly released Trek to Yomi. The game seems to be working pretty OK on Steam Deck. 60FPS is hard to achieve without destroying the whole graphic quality. But the game has UE4 stutters. So I am going to be addressing the issue in this guide. Here is the fix, check it out below.

Trek to Yomi Stuttering and Performance Fix for Steam Deck

ABOUT THIS GAME

As a vow to his dying Master, the young swordsman Hiroki is sworn to protect his town and the people he loves against all threats. Faced with tragedy and bound to duty, the lone samurai must voyage beyond life and death to confront himself and decide his path forward.

Cinematic Presentation
Breathtaking camera angles and striking visuals in the spirit of classic samurai film create a true cinematic experience in Trek to Yomi.

Stylish Combat
Engage vicious swordsmen and supernatural beings with a streamlined combat system based around the traditional weapons of the samurai.

Mythic Storytelling
Experience an enthralling story of Hiroki during his fall against the forces of evil and heroic return to make good on his failed promise to save the people he swore to protect.

Thrilling Soundtrack
The thrilling action and somber moments are set against a memorable score designed to feel authentic to the time and place of feudal Japan.

The game works perfectly fine ‘out of the box’. It’s not bad at all, but it can be a lot better. Look for the performance guide below.

Performance guide

1. Go to Desktop mode and download Discovery ProtonUp-QT and Notepadqq.
2. Run ProtonUp-QT, add latest version of ProtonGE and install it for Steam.
3. Run Dolphin file manager and go to: /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/1370050/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Ronin/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor/
4. Open with Notepadqq Engine.ini and put these lines below:

[SystemSettings]

r.MaxAnisotrophy=16
r.ScreenPercentage=75  (70 if you want more stable 60FPS)
r.Tonemapper.Sharpen=0.5  (go max to 1.0 if you want more sharpness)

Save the file.

5. Return to Game Mode.
6. Go to Trek to Yomi, move to Settings and Properties. In Compatibility tab use: Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool and set GE-Proton7-16.
7. Go to General tab and add Launch Option -DXVK_ASYNC=1 -DXVK_HUD=pipelines (this helps with stutter even more).
8. Run the game and set the graphic settings.

Note:

I just checked that the game supports TAAU! It’s an Unreal Engine 4 tool that improves down-scaled resolution, similar to DLSS and better than AMD FSR. If you want to enable it, write in Engine.ini:
r.TemporalAA.Upsampling 1
