Locating the Config and save files in BL4 is key for players to either take backups of their favorite saves, or tweak the game files to better performance or testing. Read below to know exactly where these files are located on your system to make the process even smoother.
BL4 Config File Location
By, default, the Config File for Borderlands 4 is located here:
- C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\Config\Windows
The file you will mostly look for is called “GameUserSettings” which contains every major setting for the game. Open this file using Notepad, or any other popular text editor and get to editing as per your preference. Here is what the file usually contains:

BL4 Save File Location
Here is the default location for Borderlands 4 Save Files:
- C:\Users\[Your Username]\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 4\Saved\SaveGames\[Your Serial Number]\Profiles\Client
Here, you will find the profile save file and the game save files. If you go one folder up, you can also find the cloudsave file there as well. All of these files contain your saves along with your customizations you did for the game.
A quick note for the config file, ensure that the file permission is set to “Read Only” after the change is done so that the file cannot be altered without toggling that off again. This will make sure that the changes you make stay with the game and is saved and implemented properly for the game.
