The newly released Atomic Heart is getting a lot of positive buzz due to its unique storyline and immersive gameplay experience. You will be participating in the realm of an alternative Soviet Union as you take on enemies and chart your own journey through the game.
Given the experience of the developers, Mundfish, regarding Russia, it makes sense that the details will be pretty accurate. Additionally, it is advised that the game be played in the Russian language as well which will enhance your overall experience.
Nevertheless, there have been some problems in the initial days of the launch of Atomic Heart and the following guide discusses how to resolve them.
Atomic Heart: How to fix FOV, Intro videos, and mouse acceleration
As mentioned above, there are a few problems that the game is suffering from currently. Thankfully, all of them would be easily solvable if players follow the below solutions.
Mouse Acceleration
There have been complaints of the mouse not functioning properly during certain points in the game. This will require some editing of the game folder itself, which you will be able to do when the game is closed. Go to your config directory of Atomic Heart, which for Steam players, would be “%LOCALAPPDATA%\AtomicHeart\Saved\Config.”
If you have the game on Steam, your next task will be to open the folder titled “WindowsNoEditor” or the folder titled “WindGDK” if the source of Atomic Heart is Gamepass. You will notice the “Engine.ini” file in a Notepad version, where you will need to add the below lines:
- [Engine.PlayerInput] bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
- [/script/engine.inputsettings] bEnableMouseSmoothing=False
Some players have also commented that only one of these lines will work so if you do see it do not have to add the other one. Once you have saved the changes, start the game again.
Voice fix
This is a pretty specific issue that concerns some players not liking the ongoing moaning and complaining of the character, you can choose to change the audio to Russian. You can also change the subtitles to English, thereby being able to see the dialogue in order to follow the story well. While this is not a want for everyone, if you do want peace or quiet, this is a pretty nifty trick.
Field Of View (FOV)/Widescreen Issue Fix
Players can take help from the ‘Flawless Widescreen‘ application which they will have to download onto their system. After it gets installed in your PC, start the application and look for Atomic Heart via the search option. Install it when it shows up and do not turn it off as you enter the game.
The FOV slider will be updated automatically and then do an alt-tab to check the FOV before setting it up as you feel the most comfortable.
Close videos at the start
As all of us have noticed, there are a lot of videos that play when you open the game. There is an easy way to stop them from coming up. Simply make your way to wherever you have downloaded Atomic Heart, and select “AtomicHeart/Content/Movies.”
If you have one on Steam, the path name would be “\steamapps\common\Atomic Heart\AtomicHeart\Content\Movies.” Once you are here, just remove everything that starts with “Launch” and you will be good to go.
Thus, that is all the information players will need when it comes to Atomic Heart. It is a very interesting and fun game, which would definitely mean you can try the methods to smoothen your gameplay experience.
