One of the most exciting games of 2023 has just been released in early-access mode. You will be shrunk down into microscopic size in Smalland: Survive the Wilds and have to fight against bigger insects around.
Players will also be tasked with looking for several resources, crafting weapons, and surviving the conditions. Your opponents will be the bugs and insects, but there is a way to get them to become more friendly with you.
Players can tame the different species present one after the other in the game, and the following guide explains how to go about the process for each insect.
Smalland: Survive the Wilds – How To Catch/Tame Different Bugs
Players can only have one pet as their partner at the moment. You will have to release or kill the first one to get another. You should be looking to craft the whistle early on, as it will help you call the pet to your location.
Ensure you are not traveling far away from the pet, as they can leave otherwise. The pets can be healed by giving them food, and the game ends in its early-access form after you unlock the chest. The game has several insects for you to tame and have as your pets.
Taming a Wolf Spider
This is a pet mount and will attack even though you are mounted on it. It will help remove weaker bugs, but its overall health is not the best, so players must be careful of being attacked. Players have to interact with Lisandra in a spider-infested cave and get the task of killing the Albino Spider.
After you finish the quest, you will get the recipe for taming the Wolf Spider. Once you have the recipe, look for a Wolf Spider, and after getting it down to lesser than half the health, there will be the Tame option onscreen. You can jump from great heights with it.
Taming a Ladybug
One of the earliest insects you will get and give the bag on it, you will be able to store stuff in it in big amounts. Players have to acquire chitin by demolishing beetles and making the coarse axe which will allow them to cut down plants that give nectar.
After the bag is ready, get a ladybug and reduce its health to less than half. Then comes the option to tame, and the ladybug will wear the backpack immediately.
Taming a Devil’s Horse
The faster mount can somewhat fly and glide in exchange for stamina. Players will get the mission of killing the King Stag Beetle from Nok. Once you bring it back to The Elder and unlock the chest for your reward, you will be asked to speak with The Elder again.
Players will get the recipe for the item of the Devil’s Horse, but you already possess the stone oven. As before, leave the Devil’s Horse with lesser life, and you will get the taming option. Players should not traverse water with this as both will drown.
Taming a Gecko
The gecko is excellent in covering distances through movement, but its jumping is not as high as the grasshopper. However, its health is excellent and sturdy as well. Players have to take on Skadi’s mission which will have you taking down the Rhino and acquiring its horn.
The Rhino’s position will come up after you take on the mission. Skadi will teach the recipe to tame the gecko, and the ingredients are similar to the grasshopper’s. Get the health to lower than half, and you will be able to tame it. The gecko will fight once you are off it. You can jump from great heights with it.
Taming a Grasshopper
It is the quickest insect and can move over considerable distances quickly once players have the cauldron, which will be required for recipe creation and special delicacies. After you get the cauldron, the recipe will be straightforward.
The stone cutter is needed to make the seed oil through seed oil crafting. Get a grasshopper and bring it to less than half-life to tame it. You can jump from great heights with it.
