There exists a software available on the Steam platform called Lossless Scaling. It offers various forms of upscaling, such as DLSS and AMD FSR, alongside frame generation capabilities. Remarkably, this software is compatible with nearly all GPUs, supporting a wide array of games, emulators, and even movies.

Priced at $7 US, it may seem a bit costly, but its versatility extends to numerous other titles. Personally, I encountered performance issues with my 3080Ti running at maximum settings in 4K. Remembering my positive experiences with Lossless Scaling in the past, I decided to give it a shot with this particular game.

The results were astounding; the frame rate issue was completely resolved. My FPS, previously fluctuating between 20 and 60, now maintains a consistent 120 FPS. The difference is truly remarkable! Here’s how you can get started.

To exclusively utilize frame generation (without upscaling):

  1. Launch the game and choose full-screen windowed mode.
  2. Launch Lossless Scaling. Ensure that Scaling is disabled and Frame Generation is set to LSFG.
  3. Click on the Scale button located in the upper right-hand corner. This action will initiate a countdown. Return to the game before the countdown concludes.
  4. Delight in the benefits of frame generation!

If you wish to incorporate upscaling as well:

  1. Adjust the in-game resolution to the desired resolution you intend to scale from, not to. Switch the Display Mode to Windowed. Set the frame rate cap to half of your display’s maximum refresh rate (for instance, if you have a 120Hz display, set the FPS cap to 60).
  2. Within Lossless Scaling, configure the Scaling Mode to Custom and specify the Scale Factor according to your scaling requirements. For instance, if you’re using a 4K display and scaling from a 2560×1440 game resolution, a 1.5x Scale Factor would yield a resolution of 3840×2160, as 4K is 1.5 times larger than 1440P. Ensure that Resize before scaling is turned off.
  3. Choose the appropriate Scaling Type, such as NVIDIA Image Scaling, AMD FSR, or LS1. Adjust the sharpness to your preference. In my opinion, NVIDIA and LS1 scaling offer the best visual results.
  4. Click on the Scale button located in the upper right-hand corner and switch back to the game before the countdown concludes. The window should transition to full screen once the countdown finishes. Note: Lowering the in-game resolution may improve performance but may compromise visual quality. Adjust according to your preference.

Notes:

After experimentation, I discovered that setting the in-game sharpness (located in Graphics Settings) to its lowest level and fine-tuning the sharpness within Lossless Scaling (under Scaling Type) yielded optimal results. Additionally, it’s worth noting that certain overlays may cause complications, though I personally encountered no issues while using Riva Tuner.

You can also automate Lossless Scaling to activate automatically upon launching the game, eliminating the need to manually trigger it each time:

  1. Navigate to “Game Profiles” on the left side and click Add.
  2. Provide a Title for the profile and input the game.exe under “Filters.”
  3. Enable “Auto Scale” and adjust the “Delay” to 5.
  4. Click Add and commence the game!

I trust this will be beneficial for individuals who are particular about frame rate sensitivity.
