Alan Wake 2 – How To Use The Case Board And Place Clues

The Case Board is a detective tool used by FBI Agent Saga Anderson in Alan Wake 2. It is a visual representation of the investigation, where Saga can add and arrange clues, evidence, and notes to make deductions and gain new mission objectives.

The Case Board is located in Saga’s Mind Place, a mental construct she uses to work through cases and sort through her thoughts. To access the Case Board, Saga simply needs to press a button at any point in the game.

You will first come across this in the tutorial/first mission, so it is not hard to miss it. Let us look at how you can use the case board in the first place to solve crimes and place clues within it.

As I already mentioned, the Case Board will be your key to solving crimes and investigations throughout the game. You will first get to see this feature in the first investigation mission of Alan Wake 2. After that, it will become a crucial part of your progress.

You can open the Case Board by pressing “Tab” on your keyboard. As you can see from the image above, it will take you to a mind palace (sounds familiar, I know!) where you can place the evidence and clues accordingly.

After Pressing “Tab,” simply “Left-Click” on the Board to enter the Case Board:

You can view Goals here by pressing “CTRL” and active cases by pressing “F.” Use the Scroll Wheel to Zoom into the Board to view the details of each investigation.

Once you gather clues, it will be displayed in the middle of this screen. You must click on them and drag them over the required question cards. For example, in the above image, I have already placed 3 clues associated with “CONSISTENT WITH PREV. MURDER?”.

  • You need to tap the clue and place it over the question card.
  • If you place it anywhere else, it will not work
  • Once you have completed placing the clues, the task will be complete.

You will be presented with new leads or lines to follow. Each question or yellow card has its own objectives, which you need to gather or complete to get the next leads. For example, in the above image, you can see two extra yellow question cards:

  • The Victim? – It is asking me to talk to someone
  • The Killer (s) – It is asking me to gather evidence

You can use these cues to narrow down the task at hand and get what the card tells you to do. Going over the drawer and pressing “F’ will bring out the files; you can sort them or select the one you want to do your investigation on.

Any clues you miss to place can be found here, so there is no need to worry about that. If you see a yellow dot next to any case file, it means a pending clue is yet to be placed in that file. An easy but overlooked feature that has been added to Case Board, according to me.

That is all the information I wanted to show for this guide on how to place clues and use the case board in Alan Wake 2. For more such guides, watch our Alan Wake 2 guides section.
