Destiny 2: Lightfall – How To Complete All Root of Nightmares Challenges

The much-talked-about Lightfall expansion of Destiny 2‘s latest Season of Defiance has excited players for many reasons. One of the most complex and hardy sets of encounters are challenges associated with the Root of Nightmares.

Players who feel they can battle through the raid on Master difficulty will be in line for big rewards and loot when done. Nevertheless, it will not be an easy journey by any means. The following guide will help players know how to complete the associated prizes with the Root of Nightmares challenges.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete all Root of Nightmares challenges

Players can compete in four Root of Nightmares challenges on the Master difficulty level, each corresponding to the respective encounters. The challenges change weekly, and the goals vary depending on which encounter you are participating in. Here are the challenges as they show up in the game:

  • Illuminated Torment Challenge (Cataclysm)
  • Crossfire Challenge (Scission)
  • Cosmic Equilibrium Challenge (Macrocosm)
  • All Hands Challenge (Nezarec)

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete Illuminated Torment Challenge (Cataclysm)

There is a lot of stuff we know about this particular encounter. Players must defeat Tormentors using final blows while having the Field of Light buff. Cataclysm is a simple encounter to finish, which makes sense regarding encounters.

Of course, you will be able to take help from other players who can knock down the health of Tormentors, which will help the runners to have their eyes on the plates instead of engaging in battles too much.

There is also the chance of members of the ad clear team being on the buff plates as the runner player returns for the Field of Light, so shooting the orb gets you the buff. You should, ideally, carry a Legendary Linear Fusion Rifle or the Sleeper Simulant Exotic Linear Fusion Rifle, which will take down the Tormentors as you land the final blows on his crit spots.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete Crossfire Challenge (Scission)

The goal of this challenge is that whoever is running or crossing over should NOT shoot their side of the node to go across. You must assign another player or players to hit the crux from the other side. The encounter is relatively easy, and you should not have any problem doing that even in the challenge mode given.

There will be an additional unstoppable champion in the challenge mode, so keep that in mind, especially for the ad clearers.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete Cosmic Equilibrium Challenge (Macrocosm)

The Cosmic Equilibrium Challenge aims to Swap the Pair of Planets instead of the usual “Odd One Out.” You need to assign two players for each planet and side to do it quickly. Alternatively, you can do it one at a time but must swap the planets one round at a time.

This also implies that instead of the usual ad-clearing roles of the players, now, these players also have to participate in calling out the planets if possible. As you already know, only one player can also call their side of the planets, so you can make this challenge work like that.

For a more precise guide on this challenge, you can read the full article on How To Complete the Cosmic Equilibrium Challenge in Destiny 2.

Destiny 2: Lightfall – How to complete All Hands Challenge (Nezarec)

During the Nezarec encounter, each player must activate a plate on each side before starting the DPS phase.

Remember that creating a Dark or Light Refuge DOES NOT count as plate activation, so that anyone can do this activity. All Hands requires each player to activate one Light and one Dark plate. Twelve plates need to be activated, so each player must use two. As mentioned earlier, creating a refuge plate isn’t an activated plate in this challenge.

Split your team into 3 for each side and assign particular plates to them. After they have done their plates, instruct them to call it out so that you have that out of the way with the player’s turn. Ad clearing needs to be on point, so I will suggest using Trinity Ghoul, Jotunn, Anything with Incandescent will also work.

This post is a work in progress, and we will try to update it as the challenges unfold weekly. Thus, that is all the information players will need regarding the four Root of Nightmares encounters. You will complete them individually, with much more information emerging in the coming weeks.
