Kratos and Atreus travel to the Aurvangar Wetlands in Svartalfheim as they travel across different worlds for different missions.
This particular location is on the pathway of The Quest for Tyr, where you will come across a water wheel on the side of a wooden platform that must be scaled to get to the raised platform.
But, there is no discernible way to accomplish that with the wheel not turning and a covered geyser spewing hot air periodically only sitting on the right.
You will need to get to a specific level of the platform in order to remove the obstruction sitting on the river, impeding your progress.
Atreus understood that the geyser has to be opened up, which is done by Kratos using the Blades of Chaos. Once that is done, the water rushing up starts turning the wheel slowly, which moves a block inside the platform to be lowered, but it is not fully done.
You will have to use your axe to unblock another geyser on the left, sitting directly below the block. Now, the first geyser’s water will keep spinning the wheel, which causes the other geyser to get frozen.
Once that happens, throw your axe again to cut the rope that is holding the block, letting it fall on the ground, thereby making the climb easier for you. Kratos will run and get on top of the block before using his axe again to fire at the first geyser.
This spins the wheel again, causing the geyser underneath the block to gush out, which pushes the block up to the level you want to eventually come to.
Now that you are at your desired location, there is a chain hanging in front of you, which must be pulled a few times in order to submerge the blockade of the river. Once that is done, you will be able to journey along it smoothly with Atreus in tow.
Thus, that is all the information you will need when it comes to getting past this obstruction on your journey across the river.
It can be a bit confusing when you first encounter it, but once you get the hang of it, the steps are simple enough while playing the game, and after the first geyser is opened up, it comes naturally.
