For example, on my motherboard (the B550 AORUS Elite V2), the required AGESA update (version 1.2.0.7) was introduced in November 2022. So if you’re running a version from before that, it’s time to update!

If you determine that an update is necessary, you can proceed to the next steps. If not, you can skip this process and enjoy your game as is.

Once you’ve confirmed that an AGESA update is required, you need to properly prepare for the BIOS update process.

  • From the motherboard manufacturer’s website, download the latest BIOS update file for your motherboard model and revision.
  • After downloading, unzip the BIOS file to a folder where you can easily access it.

2. Prepare a USB Drive

You’ll need a USB flash drive (preferably 4GB) to store the BIOS update file. If you don’t have a 4GB drive, use any USB drive that’s large enough, but be aware that the USB drive will be formatted, so back up any important files before proceeding.

Steps to prepare the USB drive:

  • Plug your USB drive into your PC.
  • Open File Explorer, right-click on your USB drive, and select Format.
  • Choose FAT32 as the file system and ensure “Quick Format” is checked, then click Start.
  • Copy the extracted BIOS update file from your folder to the freshly formatted USB drive.

3. Check Which USB Port to Use for Q-Flash

For GIGABYTE motherboards, the Q-Flash utility (which allows you to update the BIOS without entering the operating system) needs to be accessed via a specific USB port.

  • Refer to your motherboard’s manual (available on the GIGABYTE website) to find which USB port should be used. For my B550 AORUS Elite V2, the USB 3.0 port “f” is designated for BIOS updates.

  • Restart your PC and repeatedly press the Del or F2 key (depending on your system) to enter the BIOS menu.

  • Insert your USB drive into the designated USB port (as determined earlier).
  • In BIOS, select Q-Flash from the menu.

The system will start updating the BIOS. This process may take several minutes. Do not turn off or restart the computer during this process, as it could corrupt the BIOS and cause irreparable damage.
