This guide is designed for solo play on Angel of Death difficulty. In this mode, bosses primarily target the player, making dodging and learning the mechanics essential. The AI on this difficulty is often unhelpful, so mastering boss patterns and strategies is crucial.
How To Dodge The Carnifex Boss In Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2
Foreword About Weapons
Learning the melee combos for each weapon can be a game-changer. Each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses, and knowing how to utilize them effectively is a significant advantage.
Primary weapons are mostly a personal choice, but high-rate-of-fire guns are better for dealing with hordes, while slower ones excel in single-target damage.
The Heavy Bolter is a good all-rounder with range, damage, and a 40-round magazine. Grenades are also extremely powerful, so don’t hesitate to use them, just be mindful of the distance.
Boss Strategies
Tyranid Boss #1: The Lictor
Recommended Weapons: Bolt Carbine, Chain Sword
Fight Breakdown:
- The Lictor starts the fight by briefly appearing on the walls of the arena before making itself visible and lunging at you with a powerful (orange) attack.
- This initial lunge is highly damaging and should be dodged or interrupted with gunfire.
- After dodging, the Lictor will stagger, allowing for a couple of melee hits.
- It will then follow up with a series of blue and orange attacks.
- Parrying the blue attack will stagger it, opening it up for longer melee combos.
- When the Lictor reaches about half health, it will summon additional enemies, primarily grunts and ranged Warriors.
Fight Strategy:
- Use automatic weapons like the Bolt Carbine to shoot the Lictor when it prepares its initial orange lunge; this can stagger it if done quickly enough.
- When engaging in melee, stick to one or two hits initially. Parry the Lictor’s blue attacks and then repeatedly use the Swing > Kick combo to stun-lock it and deal massive damage.
- When additional enemies spawn, prioritize taking down the ranged Warriors to avoid being overwhelmed.
Tyranid Boss #2: The Carnifex
Recommended Weapons: Melta Gun
Fight Breakdown:
- The Carnifex relies on a series of large, orange lunge attacks that are not parryable but are dodgeable.
- Timing is key; double-tap dodge to perform a short hop followed by a roll to evade these attacks reliably.
- The Carnifex has multiple lunge attacks: a wide lunge across the arena, a claw-ground-breaking attack, and a series of three lunges, with the last being a Perfect Dodge opportunity.
- It also has ranged attacks that must be dodged, including an artillery-like spray and a direct frontal volley.
- At half health, the Carnifex will summon additional grunts that can disrupt your dodges.
Fight Strategy:
- Focus on mastering the Perfect Dodge mechanic to evade the Carnifex’s attacks.
- Stay at mid-range, continuously firing the Melta Gun whenever possible, and use grenades during the Carnifex’s downtime.
- Prioritize eliminating the grunts when they spawn but keep your attention on the Carnifex, as its attacks can be devastating if not anticipated.
Volkite Reactor Core Encounter
Recommended Weapons: Melta Gun, Heavy Boltgun, Chainsword/Power Sword
Fight Breakdown:
- This encounter involves defending the Volkite Reactor from waves of Tyranid Hormagaunts. The reactor’s health decreases rapidly if too many enemies get through, making it essential to manage crowd control effectively.
- The encounter begins with waves from the left, with Hormagaunts and a few Warriors. The wave ends once the Warriors are defeated.
- The second wave comes from the right, introducing Snipers and Zoanthropes that must be prioritized due to their high damage output.
Fight Strategy:
- Position the Heavy Boltgun near the reactor, use the Melta Gun and Chainsword to deal with the initial waves, and strategically use environmental explosives.
- For the second wave, clear the Sniper and Zoanthropes immediately using the Heavy Boltgun, and manage the waves of Hormagaunts with grenades and consistent firepower.
- Maintaining reactor health is key; focus on eliminating priority targets and then managing the swarm.
Boss #3: Neurothrope
Recommended Weapons: Mid to long-range weapons like the Bolter or Plasma Gun
Fight Breakdown:
- The Neurothrope fights similarly to its smaller counterparts but has additional abilities, including a wide-range laser, tracking projectiles, and area-of-effect lightning strikes.
- It also summons a bubble shield and launches waves of green energy across the arena. These can be dodged with good timing, but it’s usually easier to rush into the shield and engage in melee, leading to a stagger.
Fight Strategy:
- Maintain mid-range, dodging its laser and tracking projectiles. When it creates a bubble shield, enter the shield and focus on melee attacks until it staggers.
- Be prepared to back off when it prepares its scream attack to avoid taking heavy damage.
Mastering the mechanics and learning the dodge timings are key to defeating the bosses on Angel of Death difficulty. Focus on weapon combos, strategic positioning, and utilizing the environment to gain the upper hand. Good luck, and remember: For the Emperor!
