BG3 – Oathbreaker Paladin – Is it Good or Worth It? – One of the most important and powerful classes in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the Paladin with several abilities to boot. You have to take an oath to one, but you can also become an Oathbreaker Paladin in BG3.
The following guide will help players learn how to live as an Oathbreaker Paladin in BG3.
BG3 – Oathbreaker Paladin – Is it Good or Worth It?
Players who wish to become an Oathbreak Paladin will have to forgo their abilities connected to the character. However, you will be able to learn new powers and dialogues in BG3.
There is a distinction in the game that an Oathbreaker Paladin is not necessarily an evil character as it just shows your intention not to follow the oath you are associated with.
There may come situations where players have to make a hard decision between two options, so you may have to break the original oath.
This is where the Oathbreaker Paladin arises due to the circumstances that arise, and while every subclass needs different oaths to change into an Oathbreaker, we have given them below, along with what you have to do in order to break them.
BG3: Different Paths And How To Break Them
There are three Oaths we listed here, and breaking any of them will cause players to turn into an Oathbreaker Paladin.
Oath of Devotion
“Following the ideal of the knight in shining armor, you act with honor and virtue to protect the weak and pursue the greater good.”
Players are expected to act as true knights by keeping up their ideals and morals through the oath. You have to protect the weak and follow the strength as both of them are important in the Oath of Devotion. We have given certain ways in which you can go against the oath.
- Allow Arka to defeat Sazza in the Emerald Grove.
- Torture Liam, who is the individual tied to the board within the Shattered Sanctum at the Goblin Camp
- Take down anyone weaker than you without any reason
- Kill the Tieflings, which have caught Lae’zel inside the cage once you crashed into the beach
- Go against the Goblin Camp once you have convinced Minthara to avoid striking the Emerald Grove
Oath of the Ancients
“You fight on the side of light in the cosmic struggle against darkness to preserve the sanctity of life and the beauty of nature.”
Players have to remain on the right side of things, whatever the circumstances are. If you move away from the route, you will be breaking the oath.
- Release the Sazza goblin within Emerald Grove
- Defeat the Tiefling Pandima at the Emerald Grove
- Recall Mayrina’s husband after he has died through Auntie Ethel’s wand
- Take down any innocent individual
- Kill Owlbear and the cub of the Owlbear within Owlbear Cave
Oath of Vengeance
“You have set aside even your own purity to right wrongs and deliver justice to those who have committed the most grievous sins.”
Players are expected to deliver quick judgment for people who have done wrong, no matter what reasons forced them to do so.
- You should let Sazza go in the Emerald Grove.
While there are other ways of breaking the Oath of Vengeance, they will be discovered soon as players dive deeper into BG3.
The Oathbreaker Paladin
Once you have broken any of the aforementioned oaths, you will meet with the Oathbreaker Knight, who will invite you to meet him when you take a long rest.
You will be able to ask the Paladin about the Oathbreaker Knight and what entails becoming an Oathbreaker in the game.

Players will have two choices here, either you can get the newer abilities that come with an Oathbreaker or have to give a penance fee in order to undo your breaking of the oath.
Of course, players who want to become the Oathbreaker will take on their newer powers and journey on.
Thus, that is all the information players will need when it comes to becoming an Oathbreaker Paladin. You will live an exciting, new life through the change, so players who wish to become truly evil or just not be tied into the oath can taste this adventure path.
