Complete Beginner’s Guide For Fields of Mistria
Understanding the HUD in Fields of Mistria
Before diving into the gameplay, it’s crucial to familiarize yourself with the HUD, which is your primary source of information while playing.
- Health: This meter shows your health status and only appears when you’re injured. Health is reduced when you take damage from monsters in the Mines. Restore it by eating food or resting.
- Stamina: Performing tasks like farming, mining, or chopping wood depletes your stamina. If it runs out, you’ll be forced to rest briefly, so keep an eye on this meter and restore stamina by eating or resting.
- Mana: Mana is used for casting spells once you’ve unlocked magic. Keep track of this meter to know when you can unleash your powers.
- Buffs/Debuffs: Any active buffs or debuffs appear below the Mana bar. Each has a timer represented by a bar, letting you know how long it will last.
- Location: The name of your current location is displayed at the top center of the screen. When in the Mines, this space shows your current level instead.
- Weather and Season: This panel displays the current weather and season, which are crucial for farming and planning your daily activities.
- Time of Day: Located just below the weather and season, this shows the current time of day.
- Day and Date: The top right of the screen features a small calendar icon showing the current day and date.
- Tessarae (Money): Tessarae is Mistria’s currency. The amount you have is displayed next to a gold coin icon.
- Essence: Essence is earned by performing various tasks and can be used to purchase skill perks. Keep an eye on this counter to see how much you’ve accumulated.
- Hotbar: Your hotbar, located at the bottom center of the screen, holds your most-used items. You can expand it later by upgrading your backpack.
With a solid understanding of the HUD, you’re ready to begin your journey in Fields of Mistria!
Character Creation
Your adventure starts with creating your character. The game offers a variety of options for customizing your appearance, including hair, clothing, skin color, and even your birthday.
While some choices, like your birthday, can influence gameplay slightly, most of your selections can be changed later. Don’t stress too much about your initial outfit—you’ll find plenty of clothing options as you progress, and you can save outfits to switch between them easily.
Getting Started on Your Farm
After creating your character and watching the initial cutscene, you’ll find yourself just outside of town. Your first task is to head to your farm, where you’ll wake up with a few basic items: a Worn Sword, 1 Vegetable Soup, a Worn Hoe, a Worn Watering Can, 3 Tulip Seeds, and 3 Turnip Seeds.
Your first few days will be focused on getting your farm up and running. Start by planting the crops you have:
- Clear the Land: Use your Worn Sword to clear the Fiber from the dirt south of your house.
- Prepare the Soil: Use your Worn Hoe to dig six farm plots.
- Plant the Seeds: Plant the Tulip and Turnip seeds from your hotbar.
- Water the Crops: Use the Worn Watering Can to water your newly planted seeds.
These activities will use some of your stamina, but don’t worry if you run low—you won’t pass out from exhaustion. Instead, your character will simply yawn and take a brief rest. After finishing up, store everything except your Worn Sword in the chest inside your house.
Exploring the Town of Mistria
Once your farm is set up, it’s time to head into town. Travel north from your farm until you reach the town of Mistria. Continue moving north and up the stone stairs to trigger a cutscene where Adeline will give you your first quest: meet all the townspeople.
In Fields of Mistria, quests don’t have time limits, so take your time meeting everyone. Open your map to see icons representing the townsfolk—grey icons indicate people you haven’t met yet.
Remember, people move around during the day, and some may be in other areas. Explore the town thoroughly, referring to your map to keep track of who you’ve met.
Meeting the Townsfolk
Now it’s time to introduce yourself to the Mistrians. Use your map as a guide to find and talk to everyone in town. Track your progress by clicking on the Quest button in the main menu.
As you explore, you’ll likely come across forageables. Be sure to pick them up whenever you see them, as they can be useful later.
Once you’ve met everyone, return to Adeline to complete the quest and collect your reward. Then, head to the General Store near the Request Board in town and use all your money to buy 6 Turnip Seeds.
Planting More Seeds and Foraging
After buying the seeds, return to your farm and plant them along with any other seeds you have. Place all the forageables you’ve collected into the Shipping Bin to earn some quick Tessarae. However, hold onto Wild Berries and Water Chestnuts—split the stacks and sell only one of each, keeping the rest for later use.
With your crops planted and forageables sold, you can spend the rest of the day exploring and gathering more items. Just remember to only sell one Wild Berry and one Water Chestnut for now!
Saving Your Game
At the end of the day, you have two options for saving your game: the Bed and the Diary.
- Bed: Using the bed will overwrite your main save file and end the day.
- Diary: The Diary allows you to create a new, separate save file at any time. This is handy if you want to have backup saves in case something goes wrong.
It’s a good idea to use the Diary every few days to ensure you have multiple save points to fall back on.
Conclusion
Fields of Mistria offers a rich and engaging experience for fans of farming RPGs. By following this starter guide, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the basics, establishing your farm, and integrating into the community of Mistria.
