Best PC Graphics Settings for Hogwarts Legacy

Before starting with the details of each option, let me first list down the testing system I used to play the game so that you can use that as a reference and know where you stand on the known side of things.

  • Processor – Ryzen 5 5600x (This is my main CPU for most game testing)
  • Graphics Card – NVIDIA RTX 3060 Ti FE (My current go-to card for most games for a balanced overview)
  • Memory – 32 GB DDR4 RAM at the frequency of 3000 MHz
  • Storage – 1TB M.2 Nvme SSD for faster load times of the game and the subsequent cutscenes (If any)
  • Operating System – Windows 10 64-Bit (Updated to avoid any system issues)
  • Graphics Driver – The latest NVIDIA driver at the time of publishing. You can also use older versions in case of issues OR update to the latest one.
  • Peripherals – Logitech Superlight Mouse, HyperX Core Origins Keyboard, Razer Blackshark V2 headset, and Odyssey G7 monitor.

Best In-Game Graphics Settings for Hogwarts Legacy

First, I will go over Display Options, which has a few options to tweak, and then move over to the actual graphics configuration.

Windows Mode

The only feasible option here is window fullscreen. Another Option is Windowed, which can be beneficial for low-end systems, but it worked fine for the system I was using.

Rendering Resolution

This is set to 2560×1440 – 100% for me. This is my default 2K resolution, and I was doing quite well. If you change the upscale type, then this option gets greyed out. You can experiment with that, but I found this to be less of a hassle and easy to use.

Anti Aliasing Mode

I have this greyed out. I tried TAA Low and others, but High has the most clarity and eliminates most of the edge noise you will face. Smoother edges mean better on the eye. This will be greyed out if you decide to use an Upscale Type, as shown below.

Upscale Type

Since the Upscale Type is set to NVIDIA DLSS for me, the other options following this, like Upscale Mode, Sharpness, and Frame Generation, are set accordingly.

  •  You can also try NVIDIA DLSS and set the mode to Auto.
  • Use a sharpening level of 0.25, which worked out fine for me.
  • It boosted my FPS by about 15-18, so you can also give it a go.

NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency

Keep this ON to reduce system latency which increases PC responsiveness. You can also use ON + BOOSTED for more PC responsiveness. I think ON is the balanced way to go here.

VSYNC and Framerate

Vsync should be OFF unless you are facing too much screen tearing. I use the framerate value of 240 since I have a 240Hz Monitor. It would be best if you used your native refresh rate as the framerate value.

Field of View, Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Aberration, and Film Grain

I will show you each of their values and explain why you should select them.

  • FOV – Set this to balanced or 0.0 in my case. Increasing this can cause a few FPS Drops.
  • Motion Blur – OFF. I tend to keep this off for visual clarity.
  • DoF – Keep this OFF. Depth of Field can drop some frames, so keep this off if you are not running a high-end rig.
  • Chromatic Aberration – I did not see many frame drops after I turned this ON, so it is feasible to keep it ON.
  • Film Grain – Again, this is a setting you should be careful with. I keep this OFF for visual clearance. Turning this ON hampers some of the graphics for me personally.

Graphics Options

This is where you would make most of the changes impacting your graphics and the overall game.

Effects Quality

I keep this Medium. This changes the fidelity and complexity of visual effects. This can be impactful for CPU and GPU performance.

Material Quality

This setting is Low for me. This sets the quality of material in the world. You can go for High if you have a 40 series card.

Fog Quality

Set this to Low so that you have a decent FPS. Putting this on High settings can cost you FPS, so I do not think it is worth it.

Sky and Foliage Quality

Sky Quality should be set to Medium, and Foliage should be set to Medium. Sky should be set to the best setting since these scenes are few and far between.

Post Processing Quality

I used the Medium setting for this. When I tried to increase this to High, I got a drop of 8-10 frames. So this was heavy on my GPU and system overall. If you own a Higher-end System than mine, you can try the High Settings.

Shadow Quality

Shadows take up a lot of resources in any game. The same goes for Hogwarts Legacy as well. Keep a balanced setting here; in my words, Medium or Low is fine for most parts. If you struggle with frames after that, drop this down to Low for good.

Texture Quality

High Textures are the way to go here. This sets perfectly with my system, and the game itself looks nice. This option changes the texture resolution and how clear the game looks while you play it.

View Distance Quality

Use a balanced or Medium setting here. If you increase this to High, more elements will load in the background, which can cause some amounts of FPS Drops. If you are OK with that, you can go for the Higher settings.

Population Quality

This is quite a self-explanatory option. This will set the quality of NPCs and creatures in the Hogwarts Legacy world. However, this will impact CPU performance, so I recommend setting this to Low.

Ray Tracing Reflections

Let me tell you that the game reflections will improve a lot while using this option. Make sure you use the RTX option on 30 series or above cards. 20 series cards are supported but not that formidable in RTX for this game. Even though I own a 30 series card, I keep this Off for more Frame Rates.

Ray Tracing Shadows

This simply turns the RTX shadows ON or OFF. I keep this OFF because the games’ implementation is still not that significant. This setting also impacts CPU and GPU performance, so keep that in mind while using it.

Ray Tracing Ambient Occlusion and Quality

This will impact CPU and GPU performance, so I try to keep this OFF for my comfort. You can always use this option if you want. The impact on performance is there but not that significant. Since this option is OFF, the RTX Quality option will be greyed out for me.

Results and Tips for Performance Boost and FPS

As mentioned above, I used NVIDIA DLSS, which was quite effective in Hogwarts Legacy. I tried to keep that OFF and use TSAA High, but I was getting 10-15 FPS Lower and faced some stutters between cutscenes. Hence I went to NVIDIA DLSS and set the mode to Auto. Here are the Results:

Average FPS Recorded95 – 100 (Tested on World and Minigame)
GPU Temperature Recorded71 Degrees
Average RAM Usage20 GB

While using TSAA High without DLSS, I got an average FPS of around 65. That small change and some graphics settings made my game smoother and increased my frames, as you can see from the stats above.

Do the following changes if you happen to own a combination of the following systems:

  • Processors – i5 12th or 11th Gen, Ryzen 5 3 or 5 series or later
  • Graphics Card – RTX 2060, GTX 1660, 1650 super, RTX 3060Ti

Change the Texture Quality to medium to low and the Post Processing to low. Change the DLSS mode to Performance.

The game may seem kind of blurry, but it will run very well and give you at least 60FPS for most parts. Remember that RTX is not that prominent if you do not own a 30 series or later version of Graphics Card.

You can also set Performance Mode for NVIDIA Control Panel settings or AMD settings for AMD Cards. This will help you boost more frames if you are already struggling with it.

I am not sharing the exact values since the single Performance Mode should work fine. You do not need to change individual values for the application.

Thus that would be all for this guide on the best graphics settings on PC for Hogwarts Legacy. Please note that NVIDIA has not yet released any official driver for this game.

Also, the developers have not pushed any patches as of now. If either of these happens and there are specific changes in the options and settings, I will update this post as soon as possible.

Keep an eye on our Hogwarts Legacy Guides page for more such posts. Happy gaming.
