Embark on a journey through the beloved worlds of Kingdom Hearts with the HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX collection, now available on both Epic Games and Steam platforms. For players looking to seamlessly continue their adventures across platforms, transferring save files from Epic Games to Steam is a convenient option. This guide will walk you through the steps to ensure your progress carries over smoothly. Let’s dive into the process of transferring your Kingdom Hearts save files and unlocking the magic across platforms.
Transferring Epic Games Save Files To Steam For Kingdom Hearts
Disclaimer: Make sure to back up your saved files beforehand to prevent any accidental loss. I wouldn’t want that to happen.
Requirements:
- Github [Link]
- Save Files from EPIC Games
- Save files from Steam
Step 1:
CRUCIAL – It’s essential to have a saved file on the Steam version for whichever game save you intend to transfer. Simply begin a new game, reach the initial save point, save your progress, and then proceed to the next section of the guide.
Step 2:
Now, retrieve your Epic Games save files. These are located in documents\KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX\Epic Games Store(id). Within the Kingdom Save Editor, select “File” and choose “Open.” Then, select the image corresponding to your game (for instance, KH2.5 in this example). Upon double-clicking the image, a new page will appear. Here, select your two most recent saves.
Click on one and then hit the “Export” button at the bottom of the page. Export both as .bin files and save them wherever you find convenient (for simplicity, I recommend adding them to your desktop or any easily accessible location).
Note: For Kingdom Hearts 1.5, ensure to remove the “/” from the second file before saving, as it’s unnecessary and could cause issues.
Step 3:
With both files now in your possession, it’s time to transfer them to the Steam version. In the editor’s main page, click on the “Open File” option once more. Navigate to the Steam save file folder, typically found in documents\My Games\KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX\Steam(id). Within this folder, select the game you’ve chosen to overwrite with the other save. Look for the file containing “_WW” in its name and select it.
Final Step:
This will reopen the page from the previous step. This final part is crucial. You must ensure that the file names correspond accurately for this process to be successful. Match the “-SYS” file with the “-SYS.bin” file you downloaded from the Epic version. Failing to match them correctly will result in your saved data being displayed as corrupted when you attempt to play.
Click on the listed file you wish to change and then click on “Import” at the bottom. This is where you’ll match the file to the one being replaced. Once both files are matched, close the editor. Your saved data should now be successfully transferred over.
Issues and Their Fixes:
Playtime not appearing correctly on KH1: To resolve this, return to the editor and insert all the “-SYS” files into their corresponding save slots. This should resolve the issue. For the game time, as far as I understand, you need to import the previous saves’ “.sys” files into the matching save slots for Kingdom Hearts 1. However, I’m not entirely certain about this. If someone discovers the correct solution, please message me, and I’ll include it in the guide for future reference.
If you’re on Steam Deck or prefer not to download a program, you might find it easier to use the following link:
- kh-savefileconverter.github.io
For Linux/Steam Deck users, the save path is:
- .local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2552430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX/Steam/
Achievements: Achievements will still work as normal, but the transferred save file won’t automatically unlock your old achievements. You’ll need to earn them again. However, if you want to update your achievements manually, you can use a program called Steam Achievement Manager.
Too Long Did Not Read? Here is a simplified version of the fix!
